EDTO Flashcards
What is the concept of EDTO?
- It’s the concept that an aircraft can fly outside the threshold time of an adequate aerodrome but must be followed using more stringent operational requirements and standards.
What are the aircraft requirements for EDTO?
OEI LRC speed
What is the 60 minute rule?
back in the day:
the flight time of 2 and 3 engine aircraft should not be more than 60 minutes (FAA) from an adequate aerodrome
- at OEI LRC speed that’s around 400nm.
outside the USA it’s 90 minutes
What is the threshold time for EDTO in modern times as per CAR 1
60 mins for 2 engine
180 mins for more than 2 engine
what is the EDTO critical fuel requirement
the minimum fuel requirement for EDTO is the highest of the two:
- normal flight fuel (DEP to DEST to ALT if required + reserves)
- emergency reserves ( fly from most fuel critical ETP to EDTO alternate and able to hold for 15 minutes at 1500ft w instrument approach to land.
Why is LRC the standard drift down procedure
Gives max TAS so minimum diversion time
What is the range circle dist for a 777-300er up to 180 min EDTO
1275 nm
What minima apply to EDTO end points
Normal departing and destination minima
For max diversions up to 180 min, what’s the speed for 777-300er
425 knots
Does wind correction need to be made to range circles for a/c in excess of 180min
Yes
When would engine out drift down speed be selected
When terrain or fuel critical
What are the EDTO range circles for 777-300er up to 120 mins
850nm
What are the EDTO primary systems
Electrics, hydraulics and pneumatics
What is the minimum holding requirement at an EDTO aerodrome
15 minutes at 1500ft above aerodrome
