two or more shots set in different places and simultaneous are linked by the editing who alternate them
cutaway
a shot of short duration of an element in the scene that is not relevant for the scene itself
insert
a shot with visual details inserted for informational purpose or dramatic emphasis
cross-dissolve
the first shot is dissolving while the second one is appearing over it
