Q

give examples of editing

A
  • cross-cutting (actions in two different locations but are taking place at the same time as each other builds tension/suspense ALSO KNOWN AS PARALLEL)
  • match on action (a shot that matches and follows the last- a shot of a door opening after a shot of a close up of a character’s hand turning a door handle)
  • jump cut (abrupt jump to move forward (like someone walking and suddenly they’re closer than before, and so on)
    fade in/fade out
  • pace of editing= how does this contribute towards the media, what does it suggest and do for the audience?
  • eye-line match= provides insight to a character’s private thoughts (can show that a certain character is center of attention/action/importance)
  • jump cuts= tend to suggest chaos, disorder/ can also help to speed up the tension of the scene
  • flashback= helps the audience to understand more about the story line and the characters’ backgrounds
  • freeze frame= makes the audience focus on one element/event
