Editing Flashcards
Montage
Juxtaposing individual shots to condense space and time, or even to create new meaning.
The Kuleshow Effect
A 3 part system in which you are a player. You see a face, see an object/event/person, then back to the face. Allows the audience to create meaning.
What are they thinking about what they are seeing? Invites us into their mindset. Makes the audience feel close to that particular character. In pyscho, as new characters are introduced and some die own, the frequency of this effect can predict or help establish this. More you idenity and root more you see the world through her eyes and stakes. She’s stealing money which is wrong but we can still empathize with her.
We turn on people in adjustment of the montage theory
Juxtaposition / Contrast
Cutting between two images to highlight constrast between them
Instead of him saying “im a murderer” or the movie just saying that, theyre saying he wouldnt hurt a fly while cutting to the scene of the car drowning, which leads the audience to think a little and come to their own conclusion.
Propoganda, bs and the truth
Parallelism/ / Matchcutting
Connceting unrelated scense through parallel features
Such as doorways, hats
Can be visual or auditaruy - screaming to train in tunnel
39 steps
Cross Cutting / Parrallel Editing
Symbolic
Thematically connected rather than visual (although there can be overcross)
Her life went down the drain the life draining out of her eyes and blood down the drain
This is the highest form of editing
Like Japanese writing you take two different symbols put them together, one thing individually another thing indivually you put them together and it’s something new
