Eden Lake Flashcards
Britishness
1, Greenery this is because it is iconic to Britian
2, Working Class, this is because there is still classes in British. Working Class are represented as rude and irrational.
3.Middle class, was represented as caring and thoughtful
Issues of representation:
more representative of the multicultural society we live in doesn’t really deal with race or have any kind of issue worth discussing.
History of horror:
less intentionally successful than 28 days later- social realism perhaps are not very appealing to international
British behaviours, values and setting:
British slang and British societal concern (perhaps the most typical of the British horror genre?) Lots of pubs and drinking and generally terrible parents.
Messages and Values
Division of the class system in Britian.
Northern was presented that they are terrible at parenting, and that they do not control the children and allow they teens to be uncontrollable.
Also the parent is a prime example f a bad parenting, this is because the children gets heavily influenced by their parent - refer the ending scene
Eden Lake, show us that we should not get involve with gangs and violent
Steve killed scene
The idea of the dark is commonly use in horror, and so is very common in horrors.
The uses of the fire- only light resources, Cast a lighting only on the cast.
The scene of the camera cuts- Steve and the chav is about power- cuts between Steve being the nice guy and the chav is the bad one
The way the chav spoke shows the differences between class.
We also got the dog barking, to enhance the tension of the scene.
Cooper died scene
1, This scene is the turning point, if you want to talk about sequences this is very useful to talk about.
2,Jenny look very sinister in this part of the scene.
When she got out and took the map, the audience has began to realise that she is doing this for herself, this has made her to became the final girl.
3, In the dumpster, we could see her eyes- HER EYES WAS GLARING,
4, We could hear her breathing pattern, and in inhaled and exhaled, builds tension, this has shown how isolated and dangerous she is right now
5, When she ripped her dress, she has declared her fenimne part of her, and this transformation about being particular,
6, Watkins is really manipulating us by having us thinking that cooper will help her, in the bin, she looked very sinister. She looked at the mirror looking very sinister. “Miss” this help to rein enforce that this kid reminds her that he is still a kid.
7, She breathed as she immediately stabbed cooper.
Opening of Eden Lake
1, The contrast of the opening credit scene and the actual scene was different- flashes of tied up and red font
2,We have got the motif of the children, we wouldn’t expect them to turn up to be a gang.
3,The audience are introducing with a bunch of kids from middle class and compare to the radio the lower class. When we look at them we don’t see them as a threat.
4, Jenny was presented in a very caring way, and very feminine way.
5, We got the city, and their presented in a middle class way.
Opening scene of the Lake
6, The people in the bar, we could see the slapping the children, compare to Jenny nurturing the kids in the beginning. We became judgemental with the Jenny and Steve.
7, We got two very interesting statement: “Boys are just boys”, the idea of gender is very interesting, the way that the gang are presented, are we alerted that they will become dangerous, we are alert by the boys coming in with alcohol.
8, We could use the overlapping Technic of Male Gaze- and the theory of Malvery
9, We could see it from a wide angle, the differences between the classes
How did the radio representing the Northern?
In the begging the radio was mentioning about parenting and children refusing to go to school, and how parents also refuse to bring them to school. The accent of the guests on the school, has presents a string accent of the working class.
What could we see in the pub?
1, The music slowly creeps= as we realise that it is horror.
2,The only adult, that are showing is the parking stealing, in the garden we see how kids are uncontrolled foreshadowing the teens.
3,Parent judging other parents-teaching. The director has tried to presents Jenny in a caring way.
What can we see in the bedroom scene?
The scene when Jenny was sleeping, has showed us that the others are inconsiderate and rude compare to Jenny.
Jenny has defiantly been more educated compare to the stereotypical working class, about the dressing, it helps us to see how they can get along with other classes.
People always finding way to blame.
What is the respect agenda?
The locals has the authorities to be in charge:
They don’t see as a crime but rather than a telling off = As like an honour.
