There is a lack of respect towards Eddie and he wants it. This is a whole other side to Eddie as he is generally in control but currently feels powerless. He worked hard for Catherine and wants what is best for her, shows he cares.
“I’m a patsy, what can a patsy do? I worked like a dog twenty years so a punk could have her, so that’s what I done.”
Eddie is warning Rodolfo of what he could potentially do if he doesn’t watch out, he is powerful and demand respect. Dehumanising word is used, Rodolfo is a strong figure and potential threat to Eddie.
“Watch your step, submarine”
Vinny Bolzano betraying his family is shameful, family is very important. Ironic because in the end Eddie does this and expects people to understand.
“How’s he gonna show his face?”
Family values are very important, he would never even consider doing anything like calling immigration, one of his main morals
“Oh Jesus no I wouldn’t do nothing about that”
Eddie is a father figure for Catherine and he cares a lot about her, even though it doesn’t always seem like it, he thinks he is doing things for her best interest
“I’m responsible for you” “I don’t like the looks they’re giving you”
Throughout the whole play the reader questions wether Eddie has feelings for Catherine other than familial ones, his last words show how Beatrice is the one that he loves and she has been loyal to him the whole time
“Oh B, my B”
