EDDA Flashcards
1
Q
Requirements for a Confounding Variable
A
- causal factor for outcome
- associated with exposure
- not caused by exposure
2
Q
What is a Lurking Variable?
A
An unobserved confounding variable
3
Q
What are the three S’s?
A
Shape (symmetric or skewed), Centre (median, mean), Spread (IQR, sd)
4
Q
How to find Q1 and Q3?
A
Q1 and Q3 are respectively the median of the first and second half of the data
5
Q
What is risk?
A
Probability usually for a bad outcome (death, disease etc.) over a specified time period
6
Q
What is prevalence?
A
Probability that random person has disease at any particular time
7
Q
Why is risk difference not helpful?
A
Because if p1 and p2 are really small numbers they will have a small risk difference even if for example p1 is 10 times bigger
