An area where there living and non-living things interact.
Community
Where organisms live together in an ecosystem.
Niche
The role that each species plays in its community.
Biotic Factors
Living things in an ecosystem.
Abiotic Factors
Non-Living things in an ecosystem.
Species
Organisms that have the same general physical characteristics and other adaptations.
Environment
All the living and non-living things around an organism.
Population
Contains all the organisms of the same type of community.
Adaptations
The physical, mental, and behavioral changes in an organism to help it better suit its habitats conditions.
Habitat
The place in an environment where an organism lives.
Biome
A large, naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat.
Deciduous Forest
A forest that has four seasons, found in six of the seven continents and leaves that fall off in Autumn. The average temp. is 50 degrees.
Desert
A dry, barren area of land that is covered in sand or snow and is characteristically desolate, waterless, and without vegetation. It covers about 1/5 of the world and can be hot or cold
Taiga
A somewhat swampy coniferous forest
Tundra
A vast, flat, treeless Arctic region of Europe, Asia and North America in which the subsoil is permanently frozen.
Tropical Rainforest
A luxurious forest found typically in tropical areas with consistently heavy rainfall.
Producer
An organism that creates its own food from the Sun and other resources.
Consumer
An organism, usually an animal, that feeds on plants and animals.
Decomposer
An organism, usually a bacteria or fungus, that breaks down the cells of dead plants and animal into food.
Herbivore
An organism that eats only plants.
Carnivore
An organism that eats only meat.
Omnivore
An organism that eats both plants and meat.
Food Chain
A series of organisms in a chain, ordered by their feeding habits, with smallest on bottom, and biggest on top.
Food Web
A series of organisms linked by predator-prey and consumer-resource interactions.
