Ecosystems Flashcards
Habitat
Where an organism lives
Biotic Factors
Living things In a ecosystem
Abiotic Factors
Non-living things in an ecosystem
Population
Species grouping (ex. Snake, bird, tree population)
Community
Organisms that live together in an ecosystem
Niche
The role that each species plays in its community
Adaptions
Is a structure behavior that allows a species survive
Species
All members of the same population
Environment
All living and non living things around an organism
Ecosystem
An area in which living and non living things interact
Biomes
Biomes are regions of the world with similar climates, animals, and plants
Six major biomes are Tundra, Tropical Rainforest, Grasslands, Taiga, Desert, and Deciduous Forest
Tundra
The tundra biome covers about 1/5 of the earth. It is the coldest biome
Tropical Rainforest
Close to the equator wet and warm all year animals have adaptions that help them live and survive in trees
Grasslands
It is cold in the winter and hot in the summer most animals are herbivores
Taiga
It is the largest biome on earth has 1/3 of the trees on the earth
Desert
Takes about 1/5 of the earth deserts are both hot and cold plants that live in the desert plants are great at storing water like cacti
Deciduous Forest
Can be found in all continents except Europe has 4 seasons the trees lose their leaves before winter

Producer
Producers use the sun’s energy to make food
Consumers
Consumers are organisms that eat to gain energy
Decomposer
Decomposers eat dead plants and animals
Herbivore
Animals that only eats plants Herbs=Plants
Carnivore
Animals that only eat meat Carni=Meat
Omnivore
Animals that eat both animals and plants
Food Chain
The series of processes by which food is grown or produced, sold, and eventually consumed
Food Web
A system of interlocking and interdependent food chains
