Convection Current
When warm air and cold air mix and could be liquids
Sea Breeze
Land heats faster than the sea the warm air above the land rises cooler air from the sea moves to replace it (Morning) also blows towards the land
Land Breeze
Land cools faster than the sea the warm air over the sea rises and the cooler air from the land moves toward the sea to replace it (night) blows toward the sea
Coriolus Effect
Is when the Earth spins it brings the wind in the Northern Hemisphere goes west to east when in the Southern Hemisphere it goes east to west
Jet Stream
Very fast moving winds caused by differences in temperature. About 10 KM above the ground. Moves west to east in northern hemisphere.
Trade Winds
Winds that bring cooler air to the equator
Doldrums
A sport near the equator where there are very few winds
Prevailing Winds
Winds that blow away from the equator brings warm air to the poles
Prevailing Westerlies
Winds that blow away from the equator blow west to east found over the United States
Polar Easterlies
Winds that are found near the poles winds that move east to west
El Niño
Band of warm ocean temperatures that develop off the coast of South America can cause droughts warms up climates Pacific Ocean
La Niña
Band of cold ocean temperatures that develop off the coast of South America can cause more precipitation cools down climate Pacific Ocean
The Gulf Stream
An ocean current found in the Atlantic that brings warmer temperatures to the East coast of the U.S.
