Ecosystem Processes Flashcards
What is the chemical that absorbs light in leaves called?
Chlorophyll.
Where is chlorophyll found in plants?
In the leaves cells. In parts of the cell called chloroplasts.
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide + Water -> Glucose + Oxygen.
Why do plants need phosphates?
For healthy roots.
Why do plants need potassium?
For healthy leaves and flowers.
What is the equation for respiration?
Glucose + Oxygen -> Carbon Dioxide + Water
Where do plants get the carbon dioxide from?
The air, through stomata in their leaves.
Where do plants get the water from?
The soil, through their roots.
Why do plants need magnesium?
For making chlorophyll.
What type of cell is found next to stomata in leaves?
Guard cells.
Where do wild plants get the light from?
The Sun.
What is needed for plants to photosynthesise?
Carbon Dioxide, Water and Light.
What is the equation for fermentation?
Glucose -> Ethanol + Carbon Dioxide.
Why is energy lost through food chains?
Animals moving, keeping themselves warm, respiration.
Why do plants need nitrates?
To make proteins.
