ecosystem Flashcards
habitat
the place where an organism lives eg a rocky shore or a field
population
all the organisms of one species in one habitat
producer
an organism that produces organic molecules using sunlight energy eg: plants
consumer
an organism that eats other organisms eg; animals and birds
decomposer
an organism that breaks down dead or undigested organic material eg bacterial and fungi
trophic level
a stage in a food chain occupied by a particular group of organisms eg : producers are first trophc level in a food chain.
whats an ecosystem?
an ecosystem is all the organisms loving in a certain area and all the non living conditions found there. - its a dynamic system - this mean its changing all the time.
whats an abiotic factor?
the nonliving features in an ecosystem. eg temperature, rainfall , shape of a land.
whats a biotic factor?
the living features of an ecosystem. eg the presence of a predetor or food.
how does the biotic and abiotic factors have an impacton the ecosystem?
rock pools- biotic factors - sea weed can be a food source for consumers.
- abiotic factors- rock pools are heavily influenced by the tides. at the high tide they are completely submerged by the ocean so experience similar abiotic factors.
playing field : biotic factor- producers include grass and other plants such as daisies . the large amount of these plants attract large amount of organismsm that use these as a food source.
abiotic factors - rainfall and sunlight affect the growth of producers in the ecosystem.
what’s biomass?
its the mass of a living material eg:the mass of a palnt material.
whats a food chain
simple lines of energy transfer
food web
these show lots of food chains in an ecosystem and how they overlap.
primary consumer
producers are eaten by primary consumers
secondary consumer
primary consumers are eaten by secondary consumer
