Ecosystem Flashcards
Environment
All living and non-living things around an organism is its environment
Adaptation
An adaptation is a structure of behavior that allows a species to survive and reproduce in its environment
Species
That have the same general physical characteristics and other adaptations.
Community
Organisms that live together in a ecosystem
Biotic
Living things in a ecosystem
Abiotic
Non-living things in a ecosystem
Niche
The role that each species plays in its community is its niche
Ecosystem
An area in which living and non-living things interact
Population
Contains all the organisms of the same kind of community
Habitat
The natural home or environment of an animal, plant, organism
biome
Biomes are regions of the world with similar climate, animals, and plants
Taiga
Taiga is the largest land biome on earth. This region typically has long, cold winters and short, mild, wet summers.
Deciduous forest
The Deciduous forest is located in eastern United States, Canada, Europe, China, Japan, and parts of Russia. The Deciduous forests has four seasons the average temp. is 50 degrees.
Rain forest
Tropical rain forest in located near the equator. Rain forest are wet and warn all year. The average temp range from 70 degrees to 85 degrees fahrenheit.
Grasslands
The weather in grasslands varies greatly. It is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. The most important plant in the grassland is grass.
Desert
The desert covers about 1/5 of the earth. Antarctica is the largest desert. Deserts are hot and cold with very little rain fall.
Tundra
The tundra biome covers about 1/5 of the earth. It is the coldest biome on earth and can reach up to -50 degrees fahrenheit.
decomposer
Are organism that consume dead plants and animals. Bacteria and mushrooms are decomposers
Consumer
Are organism that gets energy from eating producers or other consumers. Deer are consumers.
Producers
Are organism that use thee suns energy to make their own food. Green plants are producers.
Omnivore
Are animals that eat both plants and animals.
Carnivore
Animals that eat only meat.
Herbivore
Are animals that eat only plats.
Food web
A group of inner connected food chains
Food chain
The energy that flows from one organism to an other in a ecosystem
