Ecosystem Flashcards
What are the 4 layers of tropical rainforest
Emergent layer, canopy layer, under canopy layer, forest floor layer
What is an ecosystem
The interaction of plants and animals with their non- living surroundings
What are producers?
Plants that produce their own food they don’t, feed on anything else
What are consumers?
Everything but plants are called a consumer they rely on consuming something to get energy and nutrients to live
What are decomposers?
They decompose quickly in hot and wet conditions and nutrients enter into the soil,
Explain how plants and animals have adapted and tropical rainforests
Living creatures, adapt to cope with the climate and to feed all the plants or each other
What are buttress roots
These are needed to stop tall trees from toppling over
What are buttress roots
These are needed to stop tall trees from toppling over
What are Lianas
The loop around the tall trees, so that they can reach the sun
What are epiphytes
it clings onto trees but gives it nutrients
What is the emergent
This is a 40 meter tall tree that is seen pocking out above the canopy
What are drip tips
The rainwater can fall straight off the leaves
What is photosynthesis
When the suns Energy gets trapped by the plants
what is a Food chain
The food chain shows what eats what in a ecosystem
How do ecosystems get their energy and how energy is passed through the ecosystem
they get their energy through sunlight using photosynthesis making the glucose(energy)
