Coasts Flashcards
What is constructive waves?
constructive waves have long length but aren’t as big
What destructive waves?
Destructive waves are high, and have short wave lengths and stronger backwash
What is swash
The movement of water up the beach
What is Backwash
The movement of water back to the sea
What determines the size of a wave?
How strong the wind is, how long has been blown for, and how big the fetch is
what are the four transportations processes
Traction , solution , suspension and saltation
What is longshore drift
When the waves can move material along the coast in a special way
What hydraulic action
This is when waves fling sand, pebbles and stones against the rock
Whats abrasion
Flinging rocks against the cliffs
Whats solution
Chemicals in the stones are dissolved in the sea
What is traction
When the biggest stones are rolled along the seabed by the waves
Whats saltation
When smaller pebbles are bounced along the seabed by the movement of the sea
Whats suspensión
When small pieces of sentiment are so light that they float in the sea
Fetch
The length of water which the wind blows
Whats transportation
When material gets moved by the sea
