13
Q

Interdependence
5 examples (long answer)

A

Is the way that animals and plants depend on each other for survival

  • animals depend on plants (hare and grass)
  • animals depend on animals (birds of prey and rabbits)
  • plants depend on animals (bees and their pollen)
  • plants depend on plants ( shrubs and trees for shelter)
  • plants depend on decomposers (worms for the soil)

16
Q

Physical adaptation
(And example)

A

How an organism has altered its physical body/structure to survive
E.g green caterpillar turned green as camouflage protect from predators

17
Q

Behavioural adaptations
(no examples)

A

What an animal must do to survive

18
Q

Nocturnal animal

A

Sleep during the day and hunt at night (bats) (behavioural adaptation)

19
Q

Migrate

A

To move from one place to another (swallows)

20
Q

Hibernate

A

Sleep during the winter months

21
Q

Feeding relationships

A

The way that energy and nutrients are passed from one organism to another in an ecosystem.

22
Q

Carnivore

A

An organism that eats animals ex: shark

23
Q

Herbivore

A

An organism that eats plants ex:rabbit

24
Q

Omnivores

A

Organism that eats plants and animals ex:humans

25
Q

Consumer

A

Organism that gets its food from other organisms

26
Q

Producers

A

Make their own food ex:plants

27
Q

Food chain

A

Linear sequence that using arrows shows how energy and nutrients are passed on from one organism to another.

28
Q

a food web

A

Illustrates all the food chains in an ecosystem

29
Q

Name 2 environmental factors (habitat)

A
  • Weather factors: rainfall, air temperature, light intensity
  • factors affecting soil: soil type, soil pH, moisture content
30
Q

How to measure light

A

Light meter

31
Q

How to measure wind speed

A

Anemometer

32
Q

How to measure temperature

A

Thermometer

33
Q

How to measure pH

34
Q

How to measure rainfall

A

Rain gauge

35
Q

Describe 2 instruments to observe a insect (long)

A
  • pooter, to operate the pooter place one tube near the insect and inhale through the other tube which contains the gauze. This will pull the insect into the container for observation and identification
  • a beating tray, it is a sheet that is out under the leaves of a tree or shrub, then gently shake or hit the branch with a stick to dislodge insects
36
Q

How to identify organisms?

A

A key, a key is used to identify organisms in a habitat, this is qualitative data because it is descriptive and not numerical

37
Q

Line transect

A

Rope marked out at regular intervals across a habitat, used to investigate the distribution of organisms in a habitat

38
Q

2 negative impacts of pesticides

A
  • kills living things
  • water pollution
39
Q

Biodiversity

A

Variety of different species in a habitat

40
Q

Endangered species

A

Means that species whose population is critically low
