ecology Flashcards
what is a community?
a community is the population of all the different species living in an environment
what is an ecosystem?
an ecosystem is the interaction between living organisms and their environment
what is a habitat?
the environment an organism lives
what is a population?
the total number of organisms of the same species in an area
what does it mean if a community is interdependent?
this means that the organisms rely on each other. every animal, plant depends on another living organism for food
what are some ways in which plants and animals are interdependent with each other?
plants need nutrients from an animal’s decay, animals eat plants, animals eat animals.
what and explain some methods to maintain biodiversity
breeding programmes- it is the planned breeding of a species to increase their population, reducing their likelihood of their extinction. recycling - waste accumulates and can damage habitats, but by recycling these waste materials, new products can be made.
explain eutrophication and acid rain in notes
what conditions are needed for the rate of decay too increase
moister, more oxygen, more hotter conditions
what is the difference between functional and behavioural adaptations?
functional are traits the animal does to survive, behavioural are actions e.g migration.
