Define ecosystem
A biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment
If people cut down gum trees, what would be the consequence?
No seeds=No food for small animals
No small animals=No medium animals
No medium animals=No big animals
The whole Eco system gets destroyed
How are fires good for the brain ecosystem?
It can take away undergrowth so new plants can start to grow
Takes away unadapted organisms (survival of the fittest)
Some trees only reproduce if there is a bush fire
What is a adaptation
Changes in the body to fit a location
What is the difference between a low heat bush fire and a intense bushfire
Low heat only destroys easy to burn stuff
Intense bushfire destroyed everything in its path
What happens if humans make dams to control flooding.
There is too much water in some places and not enough in some places.
Pollution gets spilt in and travels all along the river
What are the three types of adaptations?
Functional
Behavioural
Structural
What is biotic factors?
All living things that interact with an organisim
Temperature
Water
Soil fertility
Availability of food
What is a structural adaptation?
The shape or size of an organism, how the body is put together.
Eg. Flattened body, colour, shape
What is wrong with spraying pest asides on ecosystems?
They kill both pests and useful organisms
It takes a long time to biodegrade.
What happens to the ENERGY as the food pyramid goes up.
The less energy there is. Therefore the apex predators have to eat a lot more then producers
What is a behavioural adaptation?
How the organism behaves
Eg. Crocodile death roll, katydid moves with the leaves
What is a functional adaptation?
The working of an organisms body
Eg. Egg laying, digesting
