Q

what are the first two things to check for when interpreting an ECG?

A

rate (how many QRS complexes are there in a 6 second strip, multiply by 10)

rhythm - is there an equal distance between each R wave, and is this the same as the distance between each P wave?

16
Q

what are the shockable rhythms?

A

VF and pulseless VT

17
Q

what are the non-shockable rhythms?

A

pulseless electrical activity (PEA) and asystole

18
Q

what is the difference between PEA and pulseless VT?

A

pulseless VT is a disorganized rhythm without a pulse (rate is usually over 180)

PEA is an organized rhythm without a pulse. Cardioversion is only used to reset a disorganized rhythm.
