ECG & The Heart Flashcards
0
Q
Systole
A
- Ventricles contract
- Semilunar valves open
- AV valves close
1
Q
Atrial Kick
A
- The atria contributes as much as 30% to the output of blood from the heart
2
Q
Diastole
A
- Ventricles refill again from the atria
- AV valves are open
- Semilunar valves are closed
3
Q
Pathologic Q Waves
A
- A sign of previous myocardial infarction has occurred
4
Q
Absolute Refractory Period
A
- The interval from the beginning of the QRS complex to the apex of the T wave is referred to as the absolute refractory period
5
Q
Relative Refractory Period
A
- The last half of the T wave is the relative refractory period (or vulnerable period)
6
Q
U wave
A
- Always follow the T wave
- If they are too prominent, suspect:
- Hypokalemia
- Hypercalcemia
- Hyperthyroidism
7
Q
What do the Boxes represent on an EKG??
A
- 1 small box = .04 seconds
2. 1 large box = .20 seconds
8
Q
Calculating HR from an EKG
-Regular Rhythm
A
- 300 divided by (How many LARGE squares are between R waves)
12: 00 minutes on video
9
Q
Normal Sinus Rhythm TEST
-Criteria to call it ‘Normal’
A
- P-wave before each QRS with an interval of .12 to .20 seconds (3 small boxes to 5 small boxes) in duration
- A QRS width of .04 to .12 seconds (1 small box to 3 small boxes)
- Q-T Interval of less than .40 seconds (less than 2 large boxes)
- Normal Rate of sinus rhythm is 60-100 BPM
10
Q
Sinus Bradycardia
A
- Everything the same as normal sinus rhythm except that the rate is less than 60 BPM
11
Q
Sinus Tachycardia
A
- Rate is between 100-150 BPM
2. Everything else is normal
12
Q
Sinus Arrhythmias
A
- Everything is normal except for PERIODIC IRREGULARITY
