ECG interpretation Flashcards
What is the first thing you check before beginning ECG interpretation?
Confirm the name and date of birth of the patient matches the details on the ECG.
Check the date and time that the ECG was performed.
Which are the lateral leads?
I
aVL
V5
V6
Which are the inferior leads?
II
III
avF
Which are the septal leads
V1
V2
Which are the anterior leads?
V3
V4
What is a normal adult heart rate?
60-100 bpm
How do you calculate the heart rate on a regular rhythm strip?
Count the number of large squares present in one R-R interval
Divide 300 by this number
If the rhythm is irregular, how do you calculate the rate?
Count the number of QRS complexes and multiply by 3
Which direction does the overall direction of electrical spread go in the heart?
From 11 o clock to 5 o clock
Which leads do you look at to determine cardiac axis?
Leads I, II and III
What does normal cardiac axis look like?
Lead II has the most positive deflection compared to leads I and IIIs
What causes Right Axis Deviation?
Right ventricular hypertrophy
What are the ECG findings for right axis deviation?
Lead I is negative and Lead III is positive (Reaching Towards)
What are the ECG findings for left axis deviation?
Leads III has the most positive deflection
Leads I and III are negative
(Leaving each other)
