ECG Changes Flashcards
Hypercalcaemia:
QT interval
QRS
Shortened QT
Broad QRS
Additional wave seen in hypercalcaemia
What may this also be seen in?
Osborn wave
Also seen in hypothermia
Causes of hypocalcaemia
Pancreatitis
Alkalosis
Sepsis
Rhabdomyolysis
Hypocalcaemia:
QT interval
QRS
Increased QT
Narrow QRS
Why are there such dramatic ECG changes in potassium imbalance?
Plays a key role in depolarization + repolarization
Causes of hyperkalaemia
Renal failure
Acidosis
Huge muscle damage
Insulin deficiency
Earliest ECG change in hyperkalaemia
Where is this most pronounced?
Tall tented T waves
Most pronounced in the chest leads
In addition to T wave changes, what other ECG changes are there in moderate hyperkalaemia?
Wide, flattened P waves
Prolonged PR interval
ECG changes in severe hyperkalaemia
ECG changes are more pronounced
QRS may fuse with T wave = SINE WAVE pattern
Causes of hypokalaemia
Diarrhoea
Excess vomiting
Alcoholism
Hypokalaemia:
T wave
ST
T wave inversion/ widening
ST depression
Severe hypokalaemia:
Additional wave
U waves
