ECG Flashcards
What are the parts of a normal wave?
P wave P-R interval QRS complex ST segment T wave QT interval
What is the p wave?
Atrial depolarisation
What leads can the p wave be inverted in?
aVR
+/- III, aVL
What does a tall p wave show?
Right atrial enlargement
What does a bifid p wave show?
Left atrial enlargement
What is the P-R interval?
Start of p -> start of R
What is a normal P-R interval
012-0.2 s
3-5 small squares
What does a prolonged P-R interval show?
First degree heartblock
What does a shortened P-R interval show?
No SAN origin
- junctional rhythm
What is the QRS complex?
Ventricular depolarisation
What is the normal QRS complex time?
0.12 s
3 small squares
What does a prolonged QRS complex show?
Bundle branch block
What is the ST segment?
Start of S -> start of T
What is ST elevation?
1mm in limb leads
2mm in chest leads
Shows acute myocardial infarction
What is ST depression?
0.5 mm in limb leads
1mm in chest leads
Shows myocardial ischamia
What is the T wave?
Ventricular repolarisation
What does a tall T wave show?
Hyperkalaemia
What do inverted T waves show?
Myocardial ischaemia
What do pointed T waves show?
Pericarditis
What is QT interval?
Start of Q -> end of T
What should QT interval be?
< 1/2 of R-R
What does a short QT interval show?
Tachycardia
What does an increased QT interval show?
Torsades de pointes
What are U wave?
Extra wave after T wave
Shows hypokalaemia
