ECG Flashcards
What are the three standard leads (bipolar)
Lead axis as atria and ventricles depolarise
Lead 1 - RA–> LA
Lead 2 - RA –> LL
Lead 3 - LA –> LL
What gives an upward deflection
moving towards recording electrode
What are the parts of the ECG and the length
P - atrial depo (0.08-0.1s)
QRS complex - ventricular depo (
What does the 3 augmented limb leads (unipolar) mean
One positive electrode with two negative linked
Invoke left foot also
6 chest (precordial) leads - unipolar
Know positioning
What is the ECG rhythm strip
Prolonged recording of one lead
Usually standard limb lead 2
Allows you to detect thyrhm disturbance
Why use 12 leads
Look at heart from diff directions
Determine axis of heart in thorax
Look for any issues
A normal ECG doesn’t exclude significant heart disease such as
Myocardial infarction
Intermittent rhythm disturbance
Stable angina
Electrical activity within cardiac muscles cells cause
Current flow in heart
Current flow in surrounding tissues
Potentail differences between distant sites on body surface measurable by electrodes placed on skin coupled to a sensitive recording device the electrocradiogrpah
