Promoting Child Development and Learning
Strengths:
I understand children’s learning process- six domains
Being able understand that children can get out of situations they got themselves into- confidence = building relationships
Weakness:
Not using sharing as an excuse (stunts learning)
No involving children in the clean up
Building Family and Community Relationships
Strengths:
Understand the importance of exposing children to diverse families- working with parents
Knowing the importance of children’s families- building relationships (being understanding)
Weakness:
Finding out more family information
Being able to communicate with family members
Observing, documenting and assessing to support young children and families.
Strengths:
Being able to document and reflect about children behaviors- Ages and stages of development
Actively observing children with a purpose- technique in observation
Weakness:
Having more experience assessing children
Knowing when to assess children
Using developmentally effective approaches to connect with children and families.
Strengths:
Redirection approaches- Ages and stages of development
Reflect on my own practice- goals for children
Weakness:
Using “sharing” as a reason for a situation to stop
Not giving children the opportunity to communicate with each other before becoming the medium in a situation
Using content knowledge to build meaningful curriculum.
Strengths:
Creating curriculum that supports and challenges children- supports their process
Being flexible with curriculum- Emergent curriculum
Weakness:
Having curriculum planned ahead of time
Using Share materials (stunts their learning)
Becoming a professional
Strengths:
Being open to feedback from other teachers to improve my own teaching practice
Being flexible- emergent- building relationships
Weakness:
I think I could talk less to fellow student teachers
Actively listening to teachers
