What are the IMO standards for ECDIS?
S52- symbols for display and presentation of ECDIS.
S57- the transfer of data between hydrographic offices and its distribution to manufacturers.
S63- piracy protection, selective access, authentication.
To provide assurance that ENC data has come from an approved source.
RCDS?
Raster chart display systems.
What’s raster charts for?
-If no ENC is available.
-IMO approved.
Advantages of raster charts?
-Familiar,
-Scanned images of official paper chart
-inexpensive to produce
Disadvantages of raster charts?
-no alarms, must set up manually
-limited zone options
-large file size
-expensive to correct
-only north up.
Back up of raster charts?
Paper charts
