ARPA Flashcards
What does ARPA Do for you?
Aim of achieving the same performance with multiple targets using ARPA that is achievable plotting a single target manually.
IMO approved?
ARPA is IMO approved
What does ARPA help with?
-reduce work load
-assists with radar data interpretation as target tracking is automatic.
-provides continuously updated info. Enables rapid situation evaluation.
-if used properly then reduces risk of collision.
Which solas chapter is ARPA?
Solas chapter 5 reg 19
Name 5 IMO requirements for target tracking radar:
1- must provide laid down accuracy within 1 minute and 3 minutes.
2- Arpa should have a trial manoeuvre function. Should be clearly shown on the display.
3- arpa should indicate lost targets.
4- warnings should be able to be activated or deactivated.
5- range and bearing info must be quickly available for objects appearing on arpa display.
6- positive indication of time scale should be given.
7- arpa should be able to show history. Min of 4 positions over at least 8 mins.
8- arpa must be able to track at least 20 targets if on auto and 10 in manual.
9- target acquisition may be manual or automatic but there must be facility to manually acquire and cancel.
Course and speed are both necessary to the function of an ARPA.
Where might the course inputs come from?
Where might the speed inputs come from?
Course inputs: gyro, flux gate, magnetic compass.
Speed input: log, Doppler water speed, Doppler ground speed.
