  • Maudsley Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA)
  • specialist supportive clinical management (SSCM)
  • 2nd line: ED-focussed focal psychodynamic psychotherapy
  • <18s: family therapy

A

  1. recurrent binge eating with uncontrolled over-eating
  2. preoccupation with control of body weight
  3. regular use of purging/mechanisms to overcome fattening effects of binges - PREDOMINANT feature
    (4. BMI >17.5)

Treatment of mod-severe (or mild unresponsive) BN

A
  • refer to EDU/service
  • treat medical/psychiatric illness
  • self-help, CBT-ED or CBT
  • antidepressants - fluoxetine 60mg (higher than for depression) - enhances impulse control, reduces binges and purging
