Axis
An imaginary line an object trans around.
Day/night
(24 hours)
PM-afternoon-after 12 lunch time.
AM-morning time before noon-asleep and when you first get to school
Rotation/Rotates
The movement of an object in a circular motion
Orbit (position)
A repeating path that on object in space takes around another
Shadow
A dark shape made when an object blocks light. When you stand outside, your body blocks sunlight and that makes a shadow.
Sphere/Spherical
Perfectly round and symmetrical like a ball.
Cycle
A circle of events that repeats in a regular pattern
New Moon
The first phase of the moon. In this phrase, the moon is completely dark since we can’t see the side that the sun is shining on.
Tilt
The angle of the Earth’s axis. This causes seasons.
Crescent Moon
The second phase of the moon. In this phase, we can see sunlight reflecting off only about one quarter of the moon’s surface that faces us.
Quarter moon.
The third phase of the moon. In this phase, we can see sunlight reflecting off half of the moons surface that faces us.
Gibbous moon
The fourth phase of the moon. In this phase, we can see sunlight reflecting off three quarters of the moons surface that faces us. It’s not a full moon yet, but its getting there.
Full moon
The fifth phase of the moon. In this phase, we can see sunlight reflecting off ALL of the moon’s surface that faces us. In this phase of the moon appears round and completely lit up.
Lunar cycle
The eight phases of the moon. It’s 29 1/2 days long.
