How do earthquakes happen?

A

As the plates push into one another, pressure builds until one of the plates slips. This eases the pressure and a huge amount of energy is released.

What other ‘terms’ are used for the earthquake?

A

Focus-The point deep in the earth’s crust where the earthquake began
Epicentre-The point directly above the focus. It is the place where tremors are the strongest
Tremors-Spread or from the focus

What happens after an earthquake?

A

Aftershocks happen. These are smaller types of earthquake, and may come in a variety of different sizes. They cause more damage on already weakened structures

How do we measure an earthquake?

A

We measure an earthquake using a seismometer of seismograph. The Richter scale is then used to describe the force of the earthquake
