Is Gorkha a LIC or HIC?
LIC
Is L’Aquila a LIC or HIC?
HIC
What type of margin was L’Aquila located on?
Destructive plate between Eurasian plate and African plate.
What type of margin was Gorkha located on?
Collision Margin between Eurasian plate and Indo-Australian plate
What were the secondary impacts to the Gorkha earthquake?
An avalanche down the mountains, tourism, income and employment declined, rice seed ruined, causing food shortages and income loss.
What were the secondary impacts to the L’Aquila earthquake?
Landslides and rockfall damage housing and transport. House prices and rents increase. Mudflow caused by burst pipeline.
What were the responses to the L’Aquila earthquake?
Seven dog units searched for survivors. Free mobile calls, mortgages and bills for Sky TV were suspended. No taxes for residents in 2010 and a torch-lit procession with catholic mass every year.
What were the responses to the Gorkha earthquake?
International help requested, 500,000 tents provided. Rescues from Mount Everest made by helicopter. US $ 274 million aid money committed to recovery. Stricter building controls enforced.
What is a destructive plate boundary?
Where two plates are forced into each other and the oceanic plate subducts under the continental plate. This causes large pressure build-up and high magnitude earthquakes.
What is a conservative plate boundary?
Where two plates move alongside each other and rocks and other material gets caught together resulting in medium amounts of pressure build up.
What is a constructive plate boundary?
Where two plates pull apart from each other, creating a ridge. Low amounts of pressure builds up and low magnitude earthquakes occur.
