Earth is a system. A System is a collection of interdepdeant parts enclosed within. defined boundary. Earth has 4 interdepdeant parts

Two types of lithosphere
Two types of lithosphere: Oceanic and Continetnal.
Oceanic: Associated with oceanic crust. Slightly denser than continental lithosphere
Continental: Associated with non-oceanic crust. Less dense than the oceanic lithosphere.
The key thing is that since oceanic is more dense than continental, the oceanic plate can eb subducted or forced benetath the contineal plate. This process is called subduction. As the oceanic plate decends beneath eh continental plate, it undergoes melting due to high temperature and pressure in the Earth mantle. The molten material rises to the surface and can lead to formation of volcanic arc (Unsure if infomration here is correct)
