How much of the world is water?
97% of water is in the oceans and salt lakes, less then 2% of the ocean is frozen.
what is ground water and how much of groundwater do we have?
Groundwater is the second largest reserve, it is 96% of the worlds fresh water.
How does the water cycle work?
water moves from continent to continent, evaporates, then goes back to continents as vapor and clouds, the cycle is done when rain and snow hits the ground.
what is important for the water cycle to work?
GROUNDWATER.
How does groundwater form from the water cycle?
water goes into the ground, it goes to the depth until it fills all the spaces, and makes ground waters.
what is the surface of the groundwater?
this is called the water table?
what are the different zones of ground water?
aeration, and saturation.
what is the difference between the zone of aeration and saturation?
the zone of aeration is the rock sand soil above the water, and the saturation is below the water table.
What is a capillary fringe?
it’s like how a water soaks upward, into a paper or sponge.
how can the depth of the capillary fringe change?
with springs because the water flows from the ground. often continuously.
How do people maintain the water table?
something called recharging, most people use wells because they have to know for sure that they will have enough water.
Where is groundwater stored?
it is stored in soil, and porous rocks.
What are different types of porous rocks?
Pumice, sandstone, granite.
What are the qualities you need to store water?
Porous, and needs to be permabale
What is permeability?
has pores or cracks.
