Earth's Systems Flashcards
Abiotic
Non living factors in the environment
Biotic
Living factors in the environment
Atmosphere
Envelope of gas that surrounds the earth
Bio
Life
Biosphere
Where all living things are found, parts of the earth where life exists
Earth Crust features
- 20-80km thick
- Composed of tectonic plates
- (valleys, trenches, mountains, volcanoes)
4.
Earth’s Crust
the hard outer layer or shell of the planet that contains all known life
Cryosphere
A sub-sphere within the hydrosphere that includes all frozen water.
Greenhouse Gas
gas that contributes to the greenhouse effect by absorbing infrared radiation
(CO2, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone)
Groundwater
Water that flows or collects beneath Earth’s surface
Lithosphere
Solid outer part of the earth that includes the crust and upper mantle
Mesosphere
Part of the earth’s atmosphere above the stratosphere and below the thermosphere, between about 50 and 80 km in altitude. (where meteors are found)
Salinity
Salt concentration in water/ measure of dissolved salt in a body of water
Stratosphere
Second layer of earth’s atmosphere, above troposphere and below mesosphere (composed of ozone)
tectonic plate
Large sections of the earth’s
