Earth's Subsystems and the Flow of Matter and Energy Flashcards
What are the 4 major subsystems of the earth?
Atmosphere, Geosphere, Hydrosphere, and Biosphere
It serves as the earth’s blanket. It is composed if the layers: Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, and Exosphere.
Atmosphere
The solid part of the earth, divided into 3 layers: crust, mantle, and core
Geosphere
Composed of all the water on earth in any form (water vapor and liquid water). Plays an important role in absorption and redistribution of solar radiation
Hydrosphere
Composed of all living things and the area they are found. In this zone, interaction between subsystems is most dynamic.
Biosphere
The process that move matter and energy from one sphere to another.
Sphere interactions
Why is the cycle important?
To balance substances between subsystems and circulation of nutrients that supports life.
