Earth In Space Flashcards
Describe one day in terms of the solar system
A day is one total spin on axis
Describe one year in terms of the solar system
Is one orbit of the sun
Describe day compared with night
Day: is when earths is facing the sub
Night: is when the earth is facing away
Describe the moon
Moon is earths only natural satellite we only see one side of the moons because it spins around the earth does not spin on an axis so always faces us.
It also can appear different shapes cause of earths shadow
It can appear both in the daytime and at night
Describe the tides
The moons gravity cause the water to be pulled slightly causing tides
Lunar eclipses
Is when the moon goes in front of the sun from the earth
Solar eclipse
When the sun blocks the moon
List the planets form the sun in order
Mercury, Venus, earth, mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
Inner planets characteristics
Are closer to sun:
Hotter
Shorter days (orbits shorter)
Mostly rocky planets
Outer planets
Further away from sun:
That mean cooler
Mostly gas giants
Longer days
How are stars formed and what is the source
From huge clouds of gas and dust which collapse and get hot
Of a stars energy nuclear reactions occurring its core
The due course of of a star like a sun
Starts as a small star
Then a red giant
Then finally a white dwarf
What happens to a larger star
Starts as a larger star Then will expand and form a supergiant Then it will explode and form a supernova Leaving a neutron star Or black hole as a reminent
