Earth and Life Science Flashcards
It involves a single parent that produces a genetically identical offspring
Asexual reproduction
It involves two parents of the opposite sex a male plant or animal that contributes genetic material through sperm( animals and humans ) or pollen ( plant )to a female plant or animals
Sexual Reproduction/Fertilization
The process by which cells obtain food molecules to support their other activities
Nutrition
The process by which food particles are broken down into smaller soluble units suitable for all use with the help of enzymes
Digestion
The process by which cells absorb water minerals and other essentials to life from their environment
Absorption
The process by which all cells organize complex chemicals from simple building units or substances
Biogenesis
Products of all cell activity which are not needed for further cell functioning are eliminated
Excretion
Insoluble non digested particles are eliminated by the cell
Egestion
Substances that are synthesized by the cells are expelled from the membrane this elimination process helps in the functioning of the body
Secretion
Includes the locomotion of cell by means of special structures like cilia or flagella
Movement
Cell respond or rich to external factors or conditions around themselves can alter their functions in response to change their environment
Irritability
Breaking down food molecules into chemical energy needed by all cells in order to functions
Respiratory
A cell copies or replicates its dna and increases its number by the cell division it gives rise to new cells as a result organisms grow
Reproduction
Is the bodies ability to maintain a stable interval environment despite external changes it is crucial for the proper functioning and survival of living organisms
Homeostasis
Is a crucial process in the human body to eliminate harmful by products and maintain overall health
Waste Removal
