Early Childhood - Theory Of Information Processing Flashcards
Cognitive Development (Short-term Memory Working Memory)
As a child progresses through early childhood they are increasingly able to hold more information in their short-term memory and are better able to do this as they get older.
Cognitive Development (Long-term Memory Permanent Memory)
Certain kinds of memory do not occur even in early childhood and childhood have Script Knowledge, which is general knowledge about a subject or an event.
Cognitive Development (Memory Strategies)
This is deliberate mental activities to improve processing and string of information. Rehearsal is when target information is repeated. Retrieval is the process of accessing information and entering ot into the consciousness.
Cognitive Development (Memory Strategies Two Forms of Retrieval)
Recognition: It refers to a type of memory that notices whether a stimulus is identical or similar to the one that has been previously experienced.
Recall: It refers to remembering a stimulus that is not present.
Both these skills improve with age.
Cognitive Development (Meta-Memory)
Knowledge about the control of thought processes.
Cognitive Development (Executive Functioning)
Conscious control of thoughts, emotions, and actions to accomplish goals or problem solve. It also facilitates children’s performance in tasks involving the theory of mind.
