Ear Parts Flashcards
The part of the ear that catches and helps funnel sound
Pinna
Where outside sound travels to reach the middle ear
Auditory Canal
Thin, translucent membrane that vibrates– separates the outer and middle ears
Eardrum
Three bones that carry the vibration of sound from the eardrum to the oval window
Hammer, Anvil, Stirrup
Separates the middle from the inner lobe
Oval Window
Fluid-filled; contains tiny hair receptors that pick up the vibrations of sounds and turns them into neural impulses
Cochlea
A part of the cochlea– supposedly creates counter-vibrations to allow the cochlear fluid to spin
Round Window
Has a large part in balance
Semi-circular Canal
Drains fluid and regulates ear pressure
Eustachian Tube
Carries impulses from the cochlea to the brain
Auditory Nerve
