Pinna
The outer part of the ear, directs sound waves into the ear canal.
Ear Canal
tube that directs sound waves to the inner ear.
Eardrum
Vibrates when sound strikes it. These vibrations are then amplified by Ossicles.
Hammer
Vibrations from eardrum reaches Hammer and hammer passes vibrations to anvil
Anvil
Anvil movement is amplified by Stirrup
Stirrup
Vibrations passed on by anvil and presses against oval window to make waves inside of cochlea
Oval Window
Connects middle and inner ear
Semi-circular canals
fluid filled tubes that gives a sense of balance.
cochlea
waves are detected by tiny hair cells inside cochlea that triggers a nerve impulse.
auditory nerve
sends electrical signals to the brain where it is converted into sounds
eustachian tube
connects ear canal to nose and throat to equalise pressure.
