Who does a forensic psychologist work for?
Mainly for HM prison service, or by NHS as they work in secure hospitals. Social services (for young offender units/ probation service). Self-employed as consultants. In Uni departments doing research and teaching
Skills required to be a forensic psychologist
1) Communication- listen carefully, speak comfortably with people. Write well- need to produce concise reports
2) need to gather info- observe body language and what people say
3) problem solving skills- putting programmes together, either for individual or institution
Qualifications required
1) recognized BPS degree in psych (GBR)
2) work experience preferred before applying for masters in forensic psych.
3) 2 years supervised practice
Graduate basis for registration (GBR)
when a degree matches BPS requirements
Salary of forensic psychologist
20,000 to 60,000 pounds
