EGPWS Warning Response (Pilot Flying)

A

Upon receiving EGPWS Warning:

Disengage Autopilot.
Simultaneously advance thrust levers to MAX and pitch 20 degrees or PLI, whichever is lower.
Maintain the present airplane configuration (gear/flaps) until terrain separation is achieved.
Climb to the MSA or MORA.
Clear of terrain, resume level flight.
Engage Autopilot.
Resume normal speed.

Upon receiving EGPWS Warning:

Communicate intentions to ATC.
Turn FSTN BELTS ON.
Scan for visual reference.
Call out the Radio Altimeter indication.
Read MFD terrain indications to check the obstacle height, guide PF for the best course of action and indicate when obstacle(s) have been cleared.

  • Smoothly return thrust levers to idle.

  • Monitor airplane deceleration.
  • Verify reverse status.
  • Cancel any aural warnings.
  • Call out “Sixty knots.”
  • Advise ATC of abort.

When aircraft has stopped:

  • Set parking brake ON.
  • Alert cabin crew (P.A.): “Remain seated, remain seated.”
  • Request appropriate checklist if applicable.

  • Press FLCH.
  • RVSM: request heading in accordance with established emergency procedures.
  • Call for Engine Shutdown or Engine Fire, Severe Damage or Separation Checklist.

  • Pull and rotate (1L/2R) both engine Fire Extinguisher Handles.
  • Press APU Emergency Stop Button.
  • Press APU Fire Extinguisher Button.
  • Press the DUMP Button.
  • Notify ATC.

After CA announces “Evacuate.”:

  • Select Batteries OFF.
  • Accomplish checklist.
  • “Emergency Evacuation Checklist complete.”

Emergency Descent (Pilot Flying)

A

Announce: “Emergency descent.”

If required, accomplish Oxygen Mask Donning procedure.

  • Select altitude (MEA or 10,000 ft. whichever is higher).
  • If VNAV is engaged press VNAV button.
  • Select FLCH.
  • Verify thrust levers IDLE.
  • Set speed brake lever to FULL.
  • Select SPEED Selector Knob to MANUAL and target speed to maximum appropriate.
  • After all memory items are complete, call for the appropriate checklist.

If required, accomplish Oxygen Mask Donning procedure.

  • Alert cabin crew via P.A.: “Attention crew, emergency descent.”
  • Select seat belts sign ON.
  • Select no smoking sign ON.
  • Advise ATC: “Emergency descent.”
  • Check flight instruments and engine parameters and cabin altitude.
  • Monitor descent path and speed.
  • Select MFD TERRAIN and monitor terrain clearance.

2,000 feet to MEA or 10,000 feet:
- State: “Two thousand to level off.”

1,000 feet to MEA or 10,000 feet:
- State: “One thousand to level off.”

At safe altitude:
- Inform cabin crew: “Attention crew, we have reached a safe altitude.”
