“Allah is forgiving and merciful”, must be forgiving so Allah does the same to them no yawm- ad- din

“love thy neighbours as yourself”, a hate crime doesn’t treat the victim as equal

“forbids immorality and bad conduct”, defy Islamic teachings as people are not seen as equal (same with theft)

-“turn the other cheek” , focuses on reformation
- values deterrence and protection ,as these help make communities less dangerous
Muslims view on aims of punishments
reformation, as it gives a criminal an opportunity to see the error of their ways “guide you to the good practices”
Jewish view on aims of punishments
- value punishment in terms of deterrence, protection & retribution “when justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers”
