Infectious Causes
Bacterial cystitis (UTI), Urethritis/cervicitis, PID, Candidal infection, Pyelonephritis, Prostatitis
Inflammatory Causes
Atrophic vaginitis, Reactive arthritis
Mechanical Causes
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Dysuria, increased urinary frequency, increased urgency, nocturia, suprapubic pain, blood in urine
Bacterial cystitis
Dysuria, increased frequency of urination, pain in prostate, bladder obstruction (unable to void completely), fever
Prostatitis
Lower abdominal/pelvic pain, chills, pain during pee/sex, nausea, fever, abnormal vaginal discharge and bleeding, abnormal vaginal odor, cervical motion tenderness (Ultrasound, STI testing)
PID - infection of the upper female genital tract
Fever, CVA tenderness, dysuria, urinary frequency (ultrasound of renal and bladder, urine analysis and culture)
Pyelonephritis
Dysuria, pruritis, burning sensation while peeing, discharge from urethra, inflamed urethra; vaginal discharge, pelvic pain
Urethritis/Cervicitis (inflammation of urethra or cervix)
Vaginal discharge (fishy odor, off-white color); pruritis and soreness, vaginal discharge (thick, white cheese-like)
Vaginosis and Vulvovaginal candidiasis
Vulvovaginal dryness, burning, dyspareunia, increased urinary frequency
Atrophic vaginitis – vulvovaginal irritation from estrogen loss due to menopause
Urethritis, conjunctivitis, arthritis
Reactive arthritis - occurs after 1-6 weeks of an infection
