dysarthria Flashcards
ataxic dysarthria- site of lesion
cerebellum
ataxic dysarthria- common neurologic signs
ataxia (loss of full control of body mvmts)
dysmetria (lack of coordination of mvmt to achieve an objective -like overshooting or undershooting
hypotonia - decreased muscle tone
intention tremor - shakiness on performing a voluntary action
flaccid dysarthria- site of lesion
LMN
1 or more cranial nerves
flaccid dysarthria- common neurologic signs
weakness atrophy fasciculations hypotonia reduced reflexes
hyperkinetic dysarthria - site of lesion
Basal ganglia
hyperkinetic dysarthria- common neurologic signs
chorea - involuntary, jerky mvmts
dystonia - muscles contract involuntarily
athetosis - involuntary, slow mvmts
dyskinesia - involuntary or uncontrolled muscle movements that are abnormal in character and may make it difficult to coordinate normal movements
myoclonus - quick, involuntary muscle jerks
tics
tremor
hypokinetic dysarthria - site of lesion
basal ganglia
hypokinetic dysarthria - common neurologic signs
rigidity
bradykinesia - extreme slowness of movements and reflexes
resting tremor
akinesia - loss of the ability to move the muscles voluntarily
spastic dysarthria- site of lesion
upper motor neuron (usually bilateral)
spastic dysarthria - common neurologic signs
spasticity - the muscles remain contracted and resist being stretched
hyperactive or pathologic reflexes
pseudobulbar affect - characterized by episodes of sudden uncontrollable and inappropriate laughing or crying
