A
Historically - character of place affected by local (endogenous) factors
- original character of places has changed because of external (exogenous) influences occurring over time
- flows of people, money, resources and ideas between places have increased (improvements to transport / communications)
- strong connections through globalisation
2

3
Q
How do the demographic characteristics of places change due to the effects of changing external forces?
A
- flows of people - e.g, young people have been leaving towns as they are unable to afford the new prices = high proportion of older people
- flows of money & investment - e.g, governments or businesses - can invest money into specific places to attract people to live there = LDDC schemes to improve economy
- flows of ideas & resources - e.g, the use of birth control can flow to new places and affect their demographic characteristics = reducing the birth rate / population size
