What’s the formula for work done?
Work done = force applied x distance travelled
How do you calculate the kinetic energy?
V squared = u squared + 2as
Kinetic energy = 1/2 mv squared
How is gyro topple prevented?
Limiting the movement of the inner gimbal to 85 degrees either side of the vertical position
Where does gyro topple mainly occur?
Artificial horizon, never on turn and slip indicator.
What is mechanical drift?
Defects causing the gyro to precess to a false position.
Defective bearings or unbalance on gimbals
How can mechanical drift be rectified?
High quality bearings and precision balancing techniques
How does apparent wander occur?
The earths rotation on 360 degrees showing precession.
Maximum error at poles.
What is transport wander?
Affects the vertical spin axis gyro and due to the gyro maintaining its spin relative to a point in space.
What’s the erection rates of air driven gyros and electrically driven gyros?
Air driven- 8 degrees/ min
Electrically driven- 4 degrees / min
What is the coefficient of static and kinetic friction?
Friction/ normal reaction = constant
How does friction between 2 metals occur?
Adhesion and displacement.
