Dynamics Flashcards
What’s a community?
It’s a group made up of different populations that share the same habitat.
What’s biodiversity?
The different types of life
What’s the biodiversity of a habitat?
All living things.
What 2 things make up biodiversity?
- Species richness
2. Relative abundance
What’s species richness?
The total number of DIFFERENT species in the community.
What’s relative abundance?
The number of each species you see in a community, (walking through the forest)
What makes for high biodiversity?
There has to be a lot of different species and there has to be relatively the same amount of each species.
What are interspecific interactions?
Relationships between individuals of different species.
What are the 4 types of interspecific species?
- Competition
- Predation
- Mutualism
- Commensalism
What’s symbiosis?
Living together
What’s competition?
Its when species depend on the same limited resources so they fight for it.
What can limit the presence of species?
Strong competition.
What’s predation?
When one species consumes another for food.
Predation includes _______, _______ and ________.
Herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores.
Populations of _______ influence population of prey, and vise versa.
Predators.
When will there be less carrying capacity?
When there are less prey for the predators to consume.
Subset of ______= Parasitism
Predation
What is parasitism?
:) :( Its a relationship that means one organism is happy while the other is not. So basically one benefits in a harmful way off of the other.
Usually, will a parasite kill it’s host?
No because it needs its host to survive.
What’s mutualism?
:) :) It’s a relationship where both benefit off of each other therefore both organisms are happy.
What’s commensalism?
:/ :/ It’s when they’re not happy or sad. It’s when one organism benefits and the other is unaffected.
