Dynamics Flashcards
Mass
It is the property of an object that resist change in its state of motion or rest.
Momentum
It is the product of mass and velocity.
p=m*v
Newton’s first law of motion
If net force is 0, object will not change its state of motion or rest.
Newton’s second law of motion
Net force is directly proportional to rate of change in momentum.
Force
Rate of change in momentum
Newton’s third law of motion
When two body interact. They exert force on each other which is equal in magnitude and opposite in motion.
Law of conservation of linear momentum
If no external forces are acting, momentum before the interaction is equal to momentum after the interaction. The total momentum in an isolated system is constant.
Elastic collision
If the kinetic energy of the system remain same before and after collision then it is elastic collision.
Relative speed
It is the speed of any object in respect to one another.
Elastic collision(2)
If the relative speed of approach is equal to relative speed of separation then it is elastic collision. All sticky and explosive collisions are inelastic.
usage of +ve sign
In finding momentum, same direction +ve.
In finding relative speed, opposite direction +ve
