Dynamics Flashcards
What is Newton’s first law?
A body continues to be at rest or at constant velocity, unless acted by a resultant force
What is Newton’s second law?
The rate of change of momentum of a body is directly proportional to the resultant force acting on it and the change occurs in the same direction as the resultant force
What is Newton’s third law?
If body A exerts a force on body B, then body B exerts a force of the same kind that is equal in magnitude but opposite in direction on A
What is inertia?
Resistance of a body to change its state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line
What is mass?
Property of a body which resists change in motion
What is linear momentum?
Linear moment of a body is the product of mass and velocity
What is impulse?
Product of a force acting on an object and the time for which the force acts
What is principle of conservation of momentum?
Total momentum of a system remains constant, provided no external resultant force acts on it
